Google's Chrome browser has made its debut, with the biggest highlight being the accelerated execution of JavaScript scripts. Recently, a Microsoft technical expert predicted that Google will further increase the speed of JavaScript by 100 to 1,000 times.

This statement was made by Scott Hanselman, a senior program manager at Microsoft. He recently attended the Microsoft Tech-Ed conference in Sydney, Australia.

Hanselman said, "I believe that within the next eighteen months, engineers from Google and Mozilla will push hard, and the execution speed of JavaScript will improve by 100 to 1,000 times. This will put significant pressure on the execution of JavaScript in Internet Explorer."

Jonas Fris, an expert from the Australian consulting firm Cap Gemini, agreed with Hanselman's prediction. He believes that the increase in JavaScript speed will make Chrome much faster in the future than it is today.

Fris also stated that for Microsoft's Silverlight technology, the most important competitor will be JavaScript, not Adobe's Flash.

Silverlight is a web vector animation and video plugin launched by Microsoft as an imitation of Flash, but it has fewer users. Experts believe that Silverlight's challenge to Flash is basically impossible. In fact, NBC's use of Silverlight technology to broadcast events resulted in a limited audience and only six million dollars in online advertising revenue. Experts pointed out that NBC made a mistake by not using the widely installed Flash mode to provide web video services.
