According to a Central News Agency report from San Francisco on the 6th, Microsoft launched a new product today called the "Virtual Earth Platform." This next-generation 3D map and location search combines mapping network services with innovative imaging capabilities, targeting general businesses and government agencies as its customer base while enhancing services such as store location maps.

The Microsoft Virtual Earth Platform will enhance the existing Windows Live Local online search functionality. Currently, it can provide online maps for cities including San Jose, the central city of Silicon Valley, San Francisco, Seattle, Southern California's Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. It also plans to offer online maps for 100 cities across the United States by next summer.

In a press release, Microsoft founder Bill Gates stated that this new 3D tool represents a new frontier, offering clients and advertisers more application space, including using virtual city maps and other functions for their product marketing.

It is generally expected that after the launch of this Microsoft product, it will directly compete with Google Earth.
