Google announced today that the Google index has reached an astonishing 1 trillion (1,000,000,000,000) pages. However, back in 1998, Google's initial index only contained 260,000 web pages. By 2000, this number had surged to 1 billion. Nowadays, Google's index grows by billions of pages every day. Not long ago, Google even used a counter on its search engine homepage to display the number of indexed pages, but around 2005, Google removed the display of the index count information.
