Asus's Google TV set-top box, which was showcased in collaboration with Google at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in the United States, is set to officially hit the market. Channel partner Newegg has already opened pre-orders online, with shipments expected to begin on the 25th at a price of $139.99. However, it remains unclear whether this product will be available for sale in mainland China.Google has secured its position in the smartphone and tablet sectors, but its initial foray into TV has not been as successful. In 2010, collaborations with Logitech, Sony, and Giga-byte did not meet sales expectations. This year, Google is making another attempt, continuing to develop Google TV with LG, Panasonic, and Sony. Additionally, hardware partners for set-top boxes include Asus, Hisense, TCL, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, and Toshiba. In late 2012, Asus submitted a Google TV set-top box named Qube for certification to the FCC in the United States, and it made its first public appearance at CES in January this year. The design of the device lives up to its name, featuring a square box shape. It runs on the Android system, uses a Marvell chipset, and comes preloaded with the Chrome browser. Once connected to a television, consumers can browse the web, stream video content from the Google Play app store, or download apps. It also supports voice-controlled search. Moreover, Asus provides 50GB of free cloud storage space.Previously, Google had indicated that the product would initially only be launched in the U.S., with sales expected to start around March at a price hoped to be under $150. However, the actual launch time has been slightly delayed. According to Newegg's online shopping page, Asus Qube shipments will begin on April 25.
