Google is looking to acquire YouTube for a price between 1.5 to 2 billion USD? Perhaps. Just by comparing the current gap between Google Video and YouTube, it's not hard to see why Google would consider such a move. If you can't catch up to them, can't you at least afford to buy them? Looking at the common Google services we use, from Deja News (now Google Groups); Blogger; Picasa; Writely; very few of these were developed entirely from scratch by Google.
Google itself has realized that it's time to stop launching new products. Sergey Brin even initiated a campaign titled "Features not Products," urging Google engineers to stop introducing a wide variety of new products and instead focus on enhancing the features of existing ones. From the launch of the new version of Google Reader, it’s clear that Google is indeed moving in this direction, and it certainly has the capability to make its products even better.
