I. Origin and Overview of E-Mail:
In October 1971, American engineer Ray Tomlinson, in the research laboratory of BBN Technologies in Cambridge, was the first to use a computer connected to ARPANet to send a message to another specified computer (ARPANet was the predecessor of today's Internet, developed by the US Department of Defense). This marked the origin of email.
After this, the email system went through a relatively long development process before gradually stabilizing. It wasn’t until the mid-1980s, when personal computers (PCs) became widely popular, that email began to be used extensively.
