Google laid off 300 employees of the US operation department of DoubleClick it had just acquired. This is the first large-scale layoff in the history of Google. The number of layoffs accounts for 1/4 of its total number of employees in the US. DoubleClick has 1,500 employees across the world. Google CEO Eric E. Schmidt claimed that the layoffs would also affect the overseas operations of DoubleCLick at a later time.
