According to foreign media reports, the next version of Google's Chrome browser software will be missing a feature that has been a standard part of web browsers for nearly 20 years: the inclusion of "http://" in the address bar.

This change has already been made in the developer version of Chrome. Although it may seem minor, it has sparked significant controversy on the Chrome website.

Users have pointed out that many web applications require "http://" to identify them as URLs and automatically open links. People refer to "http://" as a protocol.

While the modified version of Chrome hides "http://" when users copy a URL (keeping it in the clipboard), this does not satisfy critics. They argue that this change will "train" people to ignore the protocol.
