Google's OpenSocial platform has finally been officially released. This new internet application hub will provide some standard development interfaces. With the release of such platforms, any third-party software company or web developer can easily develop standardized widget applications according to these interfaces and upload them onto Google’s platform. Then, other websites can conveniently integrate these applications. In other words, with the help of Google’s platform, any website can immediately obtain features similar to Facebook’s third-party applications. The members of the OpenSocial initiative include an all-star lineup such as MySpace, Oracle, Salesforce.com, Hi5, iLike, LinkedIn, Slide, Ning, Friendster, Six Apart, NewsGator, and Plaxo.
