Still think your dual quad-core processor server is awesome? Then you should take a look at this computer from Google.

This server looks like a warehouse. Google provided a detailed introduction of this project but did not disclose the number of CPUs in this massive server. Therefore, we can only estimate based on some available information.

This server, located by the Columbia River, serves as Google's new data center. This place started to decline after electricity prices rose above $30 per megawatt-hour; it seems the current price is around $45 per megawatt-hour.

It sounds cheaper than the electricity bill you pay, and indeed, it is much cheaper. That’s why Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo are building their data centers in this power-abundant area.

Based on some photos taken on-site, this facility can accommodate 100,000 square meters of Class A data center space. The image below shows its cooling system.

According to the released data, this center has a total of 8,180 racks, and each rack contains 40 Intel dual-core processors. 8,180 * 40 = 654,400! And don't forget, there are two identical buildings next to this one, which means this center actually has computing power exceeding 1.3 million cores!

To explain this phenomenon, it can be understood as follows: One of Google's three major principles is to purchase cheap computers. They balance the load of various computers and utilize them in parallel computing, so the quantity of processors is far more important than their speed. And clearly, Google now possesses this quantity.
