Internet search giant GOOGLE announced yesterday that it would offer 30 million US dollars in prize money to individuals or companies who develop moon-landing robots capable of providing high-quality photos and other data. GOOGLE has named this plan GOOGLE Lunar X PRIZE. The individual or company who wins must send a lunar robot to the moon and complete tasks such as taking photos.

The sponsorship prize is divided into three parts. First prize is worth 20 million US dollars and will be awarded to an individual or company who achieves a soft landing on the moon and completes a series of tasks. Second prize is worth 5 million US dollars and will be awarded to the second individual or company to land on the moon and take photos. If the lunar robot can travel more than 500 meters on the moon, or take photos of Apollo components, or discover water or ice, it can also win an additional 5 million US dollars in prize money.
