Earlier today, we reported on the Gears suite released by Google. It was mentioned that Google Reader would be the first site to implement Gears technology. Now, CnBeta has completed its first journey of using a Gears-enabled application; everyone can take a look at the process:

Download and install the Google Gears suite from http://gears.google.com/.

Enter Google Reader through your browser. At this point, the page will prompt you whether to allow Reader to use Gears technology.

After clicking "allow," enter the Reader interface as usual, but after a careful search, there doesn't seem to be any immediate updates. However, after restarting your browser once, the new features of Reader are immediately apparent:

In the top right corner of the page, there is a green arrow icon. Clicking it will start downloading your Feeds locally for offline reading. The first download may be large, so please be patient.

We believe that in the near future, this technology will definitely be applied to the Google Office suite and other Google services. The upcoming desktop battle between Google and Microsoft is almost here. Please join us in watching this exciting development.
