Google's Official Explanation of the Chrome OS

Today, over 30 million people around the world use the Google Chrome browser, but the operating system that the browser sits on comes from an era when there was no Internet -- which is exactly why we want to announce this new project: the Google Chrome Operating System. It's an extension of the Chrome browser, and it's our attempt to re-think what an operating system could be.
