According to a New York Times (link) report this morning, Google is preparing to enter the e-book market by providing publishers with an infrastructure for direct sales. The New York Times reports that Google discussed this intention with publishing companies at the BookExpo in New York over the weekend. According to the report, Google is most interested in providing publishers with an infrastructure for direct sales (we guess it probably won't use Google Checkout to operate), but there is no reason to believe that Google will not launch some form of online store, perhaps based on its highly controversial service - Google Books.
