Today's Google doodle celebrates the 218th birthday of Samuel Finley Breese Morse, an American inventor and painter of portraits and historic scenes, who contributed to the invention of a single-wire telegraph system, co-developed the Morse code, and helped to develop the commercial use of telegraphs.
