The differences between Texas Hold'em and Omaha Poker mainly come down to two points. First, in Omaha, each player is dealt four hole cards instead of two. Second, players must use exactly two of their four hole cards, combined with exactly three community cards from the table, to form their hand. In contrast, in Texas Hold'em, a player can use one or both of their hole cards, or even none at all (playing the board).
This article aims to explain why these seemingly small differences make Omaha an entirely distinct and new game compared to Texas Hold'em.
