The game background of "Mirror's Edge" is a huge modern city, where the urban style blends Eastern and Western cultures. The city looks like the ideal "utopia", but in fact, it is ruled by a brutal government. They do all sorts of evil things, such as wiretapping citizens' phones, or checking private letters, and even charging violent fees to passing drivers, making it so only the rich can afford to drive. Many events in today's real society are also incorporated into this city by the developers, some of which are slightly exaggerated.
