Valve CEO and co-founder Gabe Newell recently told the media that if there is a movie version of Half-Life, the only possibility is for Valve to do it themselves, and they are already trying.

In fact, Valve approached Hollywood about this, but found that these guys only know how to make commercial movies, but do not understand the real content of games, naturally can not let them spoil such a brand.

Gabe Newell puts it this way: "We thought about that [making a movie] right after Half-Life first came out. There's a whole bunch of people from Hollywood. The director there wanted to bring Half-Life to the screen, so they brought a screenwriter or a screenwriter's agent to show us their story. But it sucks. I mean, it sucks. They don't understand what makes a good game and why people are obsessed with it.

"And then we started thinking, hey, the most amazing thing would be to either not make a movie, or to do it ourselves." I was taken aback: 'We shoot it ourselves? That's impossible. 'But The Team Fortress 2 shorts, the Meet The Team shorts, that's what we're trying to do."

As a rule, movies based on games rarely succeed and become classics, but Valve seems confident. Take your time.
