"City of Heroes" Highly Recommended! A Complete Guide from Beginner to Expert

by jaykong on 2009-08-17 18:44:29

I've seen many great guides on the official website and forums, from which I've learned a lot. To help new players quickly find the information they need, I've collected various tips and strategies from experts and compiled them into this comprehensive guide. Hopefully, it will be helpful to everyone!

For Humans (as an example):

I. Resource Development

Resources are the foundation for building, researching, and raising troops. Good resource management is key to dominating the Engtaray continent.

1. How to increase resources?

1) Occupy wild resource mines

Each castle can initially occupy 5 mine points. Different resource mines provide different outputs:

(Gold Mine: 200/hour; Sawmill and Mine Pit: 40/hour; Sulphur and Crystal: 20/hour)

2) Collect resources in the wild

You can send troops to sweep up scattered resources in the wild: Large > Abundant > Many > Quite a few > Some.

3) Magic production increase

You can research corresponding castle magic and hero magic in the magic tower. Note that hero magic must be equipped on the defending hero to take effect.

4) Equipment production increase

Equipment on the Engtaray continent possesses different magical powers. If you happen to obtain equipment that increases resource output, equipping it on the defending hero will activate its power.

2. Suggestions for resource development? (For humans)

Early stage:

1) Occupy one gold mine, sawmill, mine pit, sulphur mine, and crystal mine according to the beginner tasks.

2) Use your action points to collect resources in the wild. Bring 4 level 8 troops; even large amounts of resources won't be a problem.

3) Preferably research each magic at least to level 1, as the increased output is significant.

4) Upgrade your warehouse first to avoid waking up to full storage.

Mid-stage:

1) You can occupy more mines when your reputation reaches certain levels (2200, 5800, 11500, 21000, 33000, 54000, 80000, 150000, 300000).

2) What kind of mine should I occupy?

During the development phase, we recommend producing a large number of clerics. Therefore, allocate the quantity of resource mines reasonably based on the construction conditions and production numbers of clerics.

3) You can buy needed resources or sell excess ones in the market. Upgrading the market increases the number of transactions you can make.

4) You can raid other players' castles, but be sure to conduct reconnaissance work thoroughly and never act rashly.

II. City Construction

There are many constructions available in the castle. What should I prioritize developing?

1) Prioritize troop production

Troop production ensures the expansion of resources, so city construction should prioritize raising troops. For instance, if I want to produce clerics, I would prioritize upgrading the level 5 barracks and level 5 training technology.

2) Pay attention to the construction process

Some buildings require support from others for upgrades. For example, the council hall is the main building upgrade condition and also consumes the most resources, so upgrade the warehouse first to ensure more resources can be stored.

3) Technological development

What technology do I need to research? Generally, technology should first ensure troop production, then research technologies that increase hero combat capabilities. Since all human troops are ranged, try to maximize the "Volley" skill as much as possible.

4) Tavern construction

Higher-level taverns increase the number and quality of heroes that appear. Choosing a high-quality hero during development can make battles twice as effective with half the effort.

5) Defense preparation

Being both offensive and defensive is key to dominating. Build as high-level arrow towers as possible to intimidate enemies!

City Development Suggestions:

Within 2200 reputation: Council Hall Level 4, Barracks Level 4, Recruit Archers, Warehouse Level 4, Volley Level 2, Construction Technology Level 2, Hero Tower Level 4, Tavern Level 4, Arrow Tower Level 4

2200-5800 reputation: Council Hall Level 5, Barracks Level 5, Training Technology Level 3, Construction Technology Level 3, Volley Level 3, Arrow Tower Level 5, Warehouse Level 5

5800-11500 reputation: Council Hall Level 6, Barracks Level 6, Training Technology Level 5, Volley Level 4, Warehouse Level 6

11500-21000 reputation: Mainly accumulate clerics. If there are extra resources while producing troops, prioritize developing technology (four major resources, training technology, manufacturing technology, combat skills)

21000-33000 reputation: Council Hall Level 8, Barracks Level 8, Training Technology Level 6, Manufacturing Technology Level 7, Blacksmith Shop Level 6, Construction Technology Level 4, Arrow Tower Level 7, Warehouse Level 9

III. Troop Deployment Strategy

How to effectively use the race's troops and coordinate them to complete challenges and conquests is crucial to navigating the Engtaray continent.

Which troops should humans deploy?

As an all-rounded race in both offense and defense, human troops have relatively balanced abilities and can efficiently complete battles through ranged units.

Recommended deployment order:

Archers:

Early transition troops, recommended quantity around 300.

Clerics:

Mid-game strong force, absolutely dominant, recommended quantity around 600.

Priests:

Late-game powerful main force, recommended as many as possible.

Heavy Armored Soldiers:

High defense and carrying capacity. Besides daily reputation exchanges for elite archers, producing 300 heavy armored soldiers can increase the army's carrying capacity.

Human Troop Production Conditions:

Spearman: Council Hall Level 1, Barracks Level 1

Archer: Council Hall Level 3, Barracks Level 3, Training Technology Level 1

Heavy Armored Soldier: Council Hall Level 4, Barracks Level 4, Blacksmith Shop Level 1, Manufacturing Technology Level 1

Griffin: Council Hall Level 5, Barracks Level 5, Stables Level 1, Manufacturing Technology Level 3

Cleric: Council Hall Level 6, Barracks Level 6, Training Technology Level 5

Elite Knight: Council Hall Level 7, Barracks Level 7, Stables Level 4, Blacksmith Shop Level 4, Training Technology Level 6

Priest: Council Hall Level 8, Barracks Level 8, Blacksmith Shop Level 6, Manufacturing Technology Level 7

Angel: Council Hall Level 9, Barracks Level 9, Stables Level 7, Blacksmith Shop Level 8, Manufacturing Technology Level 8

Archangel: Council Hall Level 10, Barracks Level 10, Stables Level 9, Blacksmith Shop Level 10, Manufacturing Technology Level 9, Training Technology Level 9

IV. Troop Usage Strategy

"The art of war is deception." Mastering the principles of warfare is the key to victory in actual combat!

Who strikes first?

Monsters in the wild do not have speed bonuses, so we need to utilize our heroes to increase initiative speed and strike first.

Troop Speed = (Hero Speed - 10)/50 + Troop Base Speed

Reasonable division of troops

1) I am VIP

VIP can lock monsters for attack, achieving monster killing without losses, and can add one more construction queue. Only 20 yuan per month allows for easy maneuverability. Why not?

2) I am not VIP

How does my team choose attacks?

Your troops will prioritize attacking larger enemy groups and nearby enemies.

Can I achieve zero loss like VIP?

Of course, you can suppress enemies with large numbers of troops or reasonably distribute forces based on monster situations. However, since the formation of monsters changes randomly, there might still be some losses if luck is bad.

What is the Reconnaissance Troop Tactic?

The reconnaissance troop tactic involves trading minimal cost for the enemy's fierce vitality. Due to their very high speed, reconnaissance troops will attack the enemy first, causing the enemy's melee units to counterattack against them and delay movement, thus gaining valuable time for our side.

Therefore, placing 2-3 reconnaissance troops in the front row is a peculiar tactic widely used by many players.

V. Sweeping All Directions

Knowing yourself and knowing your enemy leads to victory in every battle. Understanding the wild resources and monster forces helps us formulate combat strategies.

Attacking Wild Resources (Few < Some < Quite a Few < Many < Abundant < Large, Resource Mines)

Required attack force: Divide 4 level 8 troops into 4 groups, with 1 in each group. Bring some cannon fodder in the front line to set out.

VI. Punishing Enemies

Maintaining the order and peace of Esypia is the responsibility of every citizen. Facing enemies not only requires sharp attacks and solid defenses, but having a high-quality hero is also very important.

Offensive Section:

1) Attacking enemy castles

Rules:

Enemy castles cannot be taken away, so we mainly loot resources. Each successful attack can plunder 1/5 of the resources, note that the carrying capacity of the troops must be sufficient.

Tips:

Reconnaissance is very important. The reconnaissance level and the number of reconnaissance troops determine the reconnaissance results. Imagine how helpful it would be to see all the enemy's conditions clearly.

Do not attack blindly. Assess your own ability. A hard-fought battle may leave us severely weakened, and the resources gained may not compensate for the lost troops.

Defense Requirements under Various Levels:

Level 1 Tower: 15000

Level 2 Tower: 49500

Level 3 Tower: 102000

Level 4 Tower: 174000

Level 5 Tower: 265500

Level 6 Tower: 375000

Level 7 Tower: 504000

Level 8 Tower: 652500

Level 9 Tower: 819000

Level 10 Tower: 1005000

2) Attacking enemy heroes in the wild

Rules:

Combat can only be initiated when encountered in the wild and within the specified distance.

Tips:

Combat consumes 5 action points. The greater the reputation difference, the more it consumes.

If the enemy carries resources, all resources can be robbed upon victory.

Defensive Section:

Building high walls, accumulating abundant grain, and delaying claiming kingship, solid defense and clever strategies can repeatedly thwart enemies.

Castle Defense Suggestions:

Try to upgrade the highest level tower to make enemies feel intimidated.

Do not stockpile too many resources, use them promptly. Without benefits, enemies naturally won't come.

Upgrade higher reconnaissance skills and dispatch small numbers of troops divided into seven teams to guard. It's hard for enemies to know detailed intelligence.

Raise the no-war flag.
