According to foreign media reports on April 23 in Beijing time, this morning the smartphone Geeksphone launched its first sales event in Madrid, selling the first batch of Firefox OS phones. Two models were available for purchase: the Keon for $119 and the more powerful Peak for $194. Both devices run the new Firefox OS operating system and sold out within hours. The Keon and Peak are preview versions of the Firefox OS, aimed at providing developers with an opportunity to test the new Linux-based open-source mobile operating system. Phones running this system are expected to be officially released in five countries including Spain, Brazil, Portugal, and Venezuela in June.In terms of hardware specifications, Geeksphone offers moderately priced options, but the Firefox OS may not be solely targeted at the mid-range market. The Keon, currently priced at $119, features a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, supports 3G and EDGE connectivity, and comes with a 3.5-inch HVGA screen and a 3-megapixel camera. It has only 4GB of internal storage and 512MB of RAM but supports MicroSD expansion. The Peak, priced at $194, is equipped with a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4, a 4.3-inch QHD IPS display, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. In other technical specifications, it looks very similar to the Keon. Both phones have now sold out, but according to a report by The Next Web yesterday, Geeksphone aims to fulfill orders at a rate of 5,000 units per day. A representative from Geeksphone also revealed that the company is working hard to restock and hopes to make another release before Friday, indicating a significant demand for the phones. It's difficult to predict the potential success of the Firefox OS based solely on the strong sales of these two phones, but they might cater to enthusiasts with limited production runs. Currently, both phones are in high demand and being snapped up quickly. (Qiuming)
