In the previous issue, we reviewed the birth and beginning of the screw mount camera. It was the Praktiflex and Contax S screw mount cameras that brought the M42×1 pitch mount onto the stage. The popularity of the M42 mount also provided a stable, inexpensive, and unified platform for various SLRs, influencing the camera industry for more than half a century thereafter. As for screw mount cameras after the 1950s, we need to turn our gaze towards a distant Eastern country – Japan.
