We have witnessed the unexpected success of Microsoft's Kinect gaming controller and Amazon's third-generation Kindle e-reader, as well as Apple's iPad tablet, Samsung's Galaxy Tab, smartphones like the iPhone 4 and Nexus S.
In 2011, there will be even more cool products on the horizon, including a plethora of tablets and new computer technologies. The U.S. tech blog Business Insider has listed the top 10 most anticipated products for next year. Here’s the list:
1. Nintendo 3DS
In May 2010, Nintendo unveiled the next-generation DS portable gaming console at the E3 Gaming Expo, featuring a 3D display. Other functions include graphics on par with today's gaming consoles, Wi-Fi connectivity, and a camera capable of taking 3D photos. The 3DS is set to launch in the U.S. in March, priced at approximately $300.
2. RIM PlayBook
RIM plans to release its iPad competitor, the PlayBook, early next year, starting at under $400.
3. Motorola Android Tablet
Google's Android chief, Andy Rubin, showcased a Motorola tablet running the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) system at this month's D: Dive Into Mobile conference.
4. Google Social Network (Name Unconfirmed)
Google is rumored to be working on one or more secret projects aimed at Facebook.
5. Sony PSP Phone
This product might be too small and too late, but it represents Sony's final chance to challenge the iPhone, expected to launch next year.
6. HP Palm Tablet
Since acquiring Palm, HP has promised to release a killer tablet using Palm's WebOS system. The device, reportedly codenamed Topaz, is scheduled to launch in the first half of next year.
7. Verizon iPhone
If given the opportunity, 23% of U.S. iPhone users would switch to Verizon. The Verizon version of the iPhone is likely to be launched in March next year.
8. iPad 2
Apple may unveil the iPad 2 next spring, potentially featuring front and rear cameras, Facetime video calling, and a price tag under $200.
9. Chromebook
Google's Chrome OS is expected to be pre-installed on laptops from Acer and Samsung by mid-next year.
10. Light Peak Mac Computers
In the first half of next year, Apple will introduce the next generation of Mac computers, equipped with Intel's Light Peak technology. This technology can achieve data transfer speeds as high as 10Gbps, more than twice the speed of the upcoming USB 3.0 specification, enabling the transfer of an entire Blu-ray movie in just 30 seconds.
