A week ago, Google and Samsung jointly released the first device to use the Android 2.3 operating system, the Nexus S. This phone is now officially on sale. In the U.S., it's available with a contract for $199, while the unlocked version is priced at $529, approximately 3500 RMB.
Many websites have already obtained retail versions of the Nexus S, so let's take a look at the unboxing and startup video as well as some real-life images of the device.
The Nexus S will run the latest Android 2.3 operating system and feature the same 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor as the Galaxy S, not the rumored dual-core CPU. The device has 512MB of RAM, 16GB of iNAND flash storage, and a 4.0-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 480x800 pixels. The screen is coated with an anti-fingerprint finish and features a curved design.
The phone includes a 5-megapixel camera with flash and autofocus, along with a VGA front-facing camera. The Nexus S also supports a 3.5mm headphone jack, software noise cancellation, haptic vibration feedback, a three-axis gyroscope, gravity sensor, digital compass, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, and more.
The overall dimensions of the device are 63x123.9x10.88mm, weighing about 129 grams. It comes with a 1500mAh lithium battery that can provide up to 14 hours of 2G talk time and 29.7 days of 2G standby time. In terms of network support, the device offers quad-band GSM, tri-band HSPA, HSDPA, HSUPA networks, Wi-Fi 802.11 n/b/g, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR. Additionally, the previously rumored NFC (Near Field Communication) functionality is also mentioned in the official specifications.
