Yangbajing is located at the southern foot of the Nyainqentanglha Mountains, within the boundaries of Damxung County. The Yangbajing geothermal scenery is world-renowned, being the earliest developed and largest geothermal area in Tibet, the biggest high-temperature wet steam geothermal field in China, and also one of the large geothermal fields that have been developed and utilized in the world. The Yangbajing geothermal field covers an area of 40 square kilometers, with hot springs around 70°C gushing up from underground all year round. Surrounding it is a misty vapor rising from the scattered hot springs. The most spectacular sight is when the gas well erupts; once the gate is opened, scalding hot water and steam shoot up to over a hundred meters in the air, and the roaring sound of the eruption can be heard from ten miles away. The white plume of steam piercing through the blue sky, together with the towering snow-capped peaks of the Nyainqentanglha Mountains and the lush green plateau, form a magnificent view.
