With the development of society, human beings are pursuing higher standards in spiritual life. As an important part of modern human life, landscape gardening is also raising the requirements for landscape designers. This means that designers need to artistically design the details of various landscape elements during the innovation process to enhance the value of the landscape.

Artistic Design of Hard Landscapes

1. Paving

Paving is a key focus in landscape design, particularly evident in square design. Many famous squares around the world leave a deep impression due to their exquisite paving designs, such as Michelangelo's designed Roman Capitoline Square and Macau's Central Plaza. However, our current design research on paving, especially detailed consideration, seems insufficient. Instead of studying how paving plays a role in the composition of landscape space, there is a one-sided pursuit of material grades, mistakenly assuming that this is good enough. In fact, not all places require high-grade materials; the principle of "using the best steel on the blade" applies here. Abroad, there is profound research in this area. For example, the paving and benches at the Paris Eiffel Tower Plaza are made of concrete products rather than high-grade granite slabs, without any sense of disharmony or lack of grade. Moreover, different spaces can be divided using the texture and color of paving, producing different usage effects. For instance, in some fitness areas, pebble paving can be selected for its foot-massage function.
