There are many materials for signboards, such as acrylic, PVC, two-tone boards, and the imitation rosewood and imitation marble advertising signboards produced by Shengcai Signboard Company. Although they vary in material, there is no difference in the settings of the advertising engraving machine. The quality of the product often shows in the post-processing techniques after engraving. Based on the focus of our peers, we introduce a series of reports taking the imitation rosewood and imitation marble advertising signboards produced by Chengdu Shengcai Signboard Factory as examples, for reference by professionals in advertising design, advertising production, arts and crafts, hotel supplies, and decoration industries.
Series Introduction Part Three: Coloring Techniques
The imitation rosewood and imitation marble advertising signboards produced by Shengcai Signboard use high-density fiberboard as the base material. Through cutting and forming, and using the latest surface treatment technology from Japan, these signboards have the natural grain of rosewood and marble, with a strong visual impact effect. These products are easy to carve, easy to color and paint, with excellent adhesion. Since the surface process has already been done, there is no need for further surface treatment after coloring and painting the carved parts, making the operation simple and reducing processing costs. They also have the advantages of not deforming, having no odor, and good moisture resistance. However, since the material is fiberboard, coloring and painting is not as easy as with acrylic materials, which can be challenging for beginners.
Tip One: Try to choose a 3D carving (some call it 2.5D carving) plan, and use a 90-degree conical tool for carving. This visually reduces the roughness of the fiberboard carving surface.
Tip Two: When setting up the carving, avoid layered carving and set it to the optimal depth in one go, which can be achieved by changing tools. This is because layered carving will leave overlapping marks, affecting the smoothness of the painted engraved areas.
Tip Three: Since instant stickers are attached to the surface of the workpiece before carving, you can operate confidently when filling colors. Directly use a brush for manual coloring, saving paint and labor without compromising the effect.
Tip Four: When using spray paint for coloring, first spray the paint into a paper cup and let it sit for 15 minutes before using a brush to dip and fill. Otherwise, the highly corrosive thinner in the spray paint can damage the paint surface of the workpiece.
