Guangzhou's five-star hotels are experiencing a boom period. With the implementation of CEPA, the Pan-Pearl River Delta Alliance, preparations for the Asian Games, the formation of the Pearl River Delta road network, and the advancement of new airport concepts, Guangzhou's hotel industry has enjoyed favorable timing, geographical advantages, and popular support since 2005. The demand for five-star hotels has also significantly increased.

According to the latest incomplete statistics, since Guangzhou Asia International Grand Hotel received its five-star rating in 2005, by mid-2008, the number of completed and under-construction five-star standard hotels in Guangzhou suddenly surged to over 30, increasing sevenfold in just three years.

This has changed the embarrassing situation before 2005 where Guangzhou, as the largest import-export trade hub in southern China, had not added a single five-star hotel in ten years. Among the newly added hotels, real estate developers with substantial resources have become self-operated owners, introducing "foreign managers" and creating top-tier luxury hotel brands as the new trend.

Over 30 hotels are awaiting their five-star ratings.

During this phase, financially strong developers have become the main investors in new five-star hotels. Developers such as R&F Properties, Country Garden, T&T Group, and Sunac have already built or are constructing multiple five-star hotels. Among them, Guangzhou R&F Ritz-Carlton Hotel and Guangzhou R&F Four Seasons Hotel located in the central urban area, and Guangyuan East Country Garden Phoenix City Hotel, which fills the gap for suburban five-star hotels, are all newcomers in the current group of five-star hotels.

The Guangzhou R&F Ritz-Carlton Hotel, which opened on March 11th this year, features 351 guest rooms and 91 apartments. It is Guangzhou's first luxury-level hotel, with Ritz-Carlton being a top international hotel brand.

The Guangzhou R&F Four Seasons Hotel, which opened in April, is Guangzhou's first international five-star hotel to introduce an "airborne lobby." Located on the 22nd floor, the hotel lobby offers guests breathtaking views of the Zhujiang New Town and Tianhe Business District. The hotel's 375 guest rooms are decorated with exquisite and luxurious materials, featuring simple and elegant lines, bright colors, and complete facilities. The perfect visual effect is one of the highlights of the Guangzhou R&F Four Seasons Hotel, where all guest rooms offer stunning views of either the Zhujiang River or the Zhujiang New Town Tianhe Business District.

In addition to several already completed five-star hotels, nearly 30 hotels invested in by groups such as Yuehai Group, Hopsun Group, Aoyuan Group, Zhujiang Group, and Jiayu Group are awaiting approval for their five-star qualifications.

After gathering dozens of top business towers and large shopping malls, the luxurious cluster of five-star hotels will further enhance the regional brand value and reputation.

Introducing experienced operating partners

Li Siliang, chairman of R&F Properties, stated that R&F is one of the few companies within the current Chinese real estate development industry that has begun to establish a dedicated investment property portfolio. In fact, many large real estate developers around the world own investment property portfolios because they provide stable and reliable financial income and are also excellent sources of long-term capital gains.

For most emerging five-star hotels, despite having advantages in hardware, they originally lacked sufficient hotel management experience. How can they form their unique brand advantages in fierce competition? Many Guangzhou real estate developers entering the hotel industry, in addition to intensifying their learning, mostly adopt the "investment + management" model, introducing experienced operating partners.

Currently, R&F has partnered with the world's three major hotel management groups: Marriott, Hyatt, and InterContinental. Its hotels will introduce brands such as Ritz-Carlton and Renaissance from Marriott, Park Hyatt, Grand Hyatt, and Hyatt Regency from Hyatt, and Holiday Inn and Express from InterContinental. R&F is one of the most extensive national developers cooperating with international hotel groups so far. In Guangzhou, R&F mainly introduces brands under Marriott and Hyatt.

As the world's most luxurious hotel brand, Ritz-Carlton symbolizes "becoming the primary provider of luxury experiences worldwide," serving gentlemen and ladies with loyalty and grace. Since the 19th century, hotels under this brand have always been the preferred choice for prominent political figures.

As the first cooperation project of Ritz-Carlton in South China, Guangzhou R&F Ritz-Carlton Hotel is positioned as the most luxurious top-tier hotel in South China.

The hotel is a tower approximately 160 meters high, designed by the U.S.-based WAT & G. and HBA firms. From its exterior to interior design, it exudes a sense of modernity while maintaining the elegant style of Ritz-Carlton, showcasing the unique taste of The Ritz-Carlton and its guests. The hotel overlooks the Zhujiang River across the new Guangzhou museum to the south, and the northwest side faces the future landmark of Guangzhou - twin towers over 400 meters tall. The architectural design interprets classic proportions using modern techniques.

R&F Ritz-Carlton Luxury Apartments is the first hotel apartment of Ritz-Carlton in China, consisting of 91 apartments ranging in size from 111 square meters to 275 square meters, making it the largest hotel apartment in the city. The apartments will offer a series of meticulous personalized services including concierge, housekeeping, room service, home banquets, and "24-hour personal butler."

Guangzhou once had one of the earliest and most well-known five-star hotels in the country - Baiyun Hotel. However, today, the quantity and quality of Guangzhou's five-star hotels lag behind other major cities like Beijing and Shanghai. The opening of high-end hotels by R&F in Guangzhou does not only provide two high-standard hotels to the city but more importantly, in terms of concepts and service software, it will elevate Guangzhou's overall urban service capabilities to a new level.
