On February 26, a consumer dining at the Yongjia Road branch of Mama Nuo's restaurant discovered that the promotional brochure had the words "Mama Nuo's Pizza Grand Opening in the French Concession". The waiters boasted about being in the "French Concession" and promoted so-called "bourgeois sentiment" and "elegant disposition". There were also promotional phrases about the "French Concession" on the restaurant's official website. The industry and commerce department launched an investigation on the same day. The investigation has now concluded that Mama Nuo's pizza advertising violated relevant provisions of the Advertising Law. It emphasized the term "French Concession", turning the humiliating history of colonization into a commercial selling point, causing the public to feel humiliated, which goes against the mainstream values of socialist society. According to the Liberation Daily, regarding the recent strong public reaction to Mama Nuo Catering (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.'s use of the term "French Concession" as a promotional phrase for its new store opening, on March 2, the Shanghai Industry and Commerce Department legally issued a notice of administrative penalty hearing, proposing to impose an administrative penalty of "ordering to stop publication, ordering to publicly correct, and imposing a fine five times the advertising cost (RMB 47,500)".
