According to villager Xia's recollection, on the morning of February 23rd, Chen Niancai, aged 61, and his wife Xue Qin Ying, aged 46, made some simple corn porridge as usual and ate it with fermented tofu, preparing to go to Baoji City to visit their hospitalized child. At around 10:30 AM, Chen Niancai suddenly started foaming at the mouth. His wife quickly sought help from the villagers to support him onto the bed, but he kept groaning and passed away before the doctor arrived. Less than ten minutes later, Xue Qin Ying also felt stomach pain and screamed loudly in the yard. Villagers rushed over to support her, moving her from the yard into the house. Her condition was the same as Chen Niancai's, and she passed away within ten minutes.
At around 1 PM, the Meixian County Public Security Bureau received the alarm. After the police conducted an on-site investigation, they determined that Chen Niancai and Xue Qin Ying died of poisoning.
Chen Niancai's sister-in-law introduced that Chen Niancai had two children, a daughter aged 14 in the first year of junior high school, and a son aged 11 in the fifth grade of elementary school. Last week, while playing, the son accidentally collided with a fire pot and got facial burns, being sent to Baoji for treatment, with his sister taking care of him in the hospital. Fortunately, because the siblings weren't home, they escaped this disaster.
The suspect dropped out of school early and had a stubborn temper.
According to Xu Min, the head of the Hengqu Police Station, after the police investigated internally and externally, they learned that the victims had argued with a 15-year-old boy named Li Mou from the neighboring house a few days ago. Moreover, on the day of the incident, Li Mou, who usually liked to watch the commotion, unusually did not show up at the scene. Therefore, the police quickly identified Li Mou as a suspect and controlled him. After interrogation, Li Mou admitted to the poisoning.
It was understood that a few days before the incident, Xue Qin Ying's rooster went missing, and they couldn't find it after searching for several days. On the 21st and 22nd, Xue Qin Ying heard the rooster crowing at Li Mou's house. After going to Li's house, the rooster flew out from the pile of firewood in Li's house, leading to a verbal argument between Xue Qin Ying and Li Mou over the "theft" of the rooster.
Villagers introduced that Li Mou dropped out of school after attending for two years and has been cutting grass and feeding cattle, doing farm work at home. When there was no work to do, he would just idle at home. "This child has a stubborn temperament. Sometimes he would cut alfalfa from other people's fields. Once, he even stuffed wire into Chen Niancai's door lock and threw away their washed shoes."
I saw that Li Mou's house was also two mud rooms. Before the incident, his parents were busy building another house elsewhere, leaving only his grandfather at home. After the incident, Li Mou was controlled by the police, and his father was summoned.
According to Li Mou's confession to the police, when Chen Niancai's couple wasn't paying attention, he sneaked into their house and poured a bottle of pesticide into the oil flask and fermented tofu. Li Mou said that because Chen Niancai had reported him to his father for stealing things in the village, which led to him being beaten by his father, and also due to a recent dispute over the rooster with Xue Qin Ying, he harbored hatred towards the couple and retaliated by poisoning them.
Zhang Hui, the town mayor of Hengqu Town, stated that the town government has already applied for orphan assistance for Chen Niancai's two children. They will then discuss with Chen's relatives to properly supervise the two children.
