For a long time, the wedding industry has been regarded as a business with unlimited opportunities, especially in recent years, its development momentum has become even more vigorous. What is the current status of our city's wedding market? Recently, the National Bureau of Statistics investigation team conducted a special investigation on this matter. The results show that our city's wedding market frequently shows disharmonious notes, and there are four major irregularities that are worrying.

Irregularity One: Excessively high prices, large price differences for the same standard. Nowadays, wedding etiquette has become an essential part of a newlywed couple's wedding ceremony. The cost of the wedding ceremony ranges from 3000 yuan per session to over 100,000 yuan, catering to various levels of consumption. However, for the same service items, the price difference between different hotels can be close to a thousand yuan, and the price difference between hotels and small event companies can be nearly half. In the detailed list of etiquette items provided by hotels, red carpets, backdrop walls, projectors, bubble machines, champagne towers, etc., are all one-time investments used multiple times. Some hotels charge almost the entire investment cost for hosting a single wedding ceremony. Hotels take advantage of the psychological need for wedding ceremonies during weddings, causing prices to double year after year.

Irregularity Two: Newlyweds are forced to accept standardized ceremonies. Almost all hotels that host weddings have their own etiquette teams or designate a specific event company. If newlyweds bring their own wedding etiquette services, they need to pay a certain amount of entrance fee. Therefore, most newlyweds can only choose the bundled wedding services provided by the hotel, with virtually no autonomy in choice. When it comes to choosing the ceremony content, they can only follow the pre-set routines set by the hotel, and modifications are generally not allowed. This leads to many weddings being identical in terms of appearance, content, and projects, differing only in the couple getting married, lacking any personal style.

Irregularity Three: Forced buying and selling occur during transactions, leaving consumers without evidence and unable to complain. The process of booking a wedding banquet is an unwritten rule followed for a long time in today's wedding market. If newlyweds want to book a specific hotel at a specific time, they must reserve several days or even months in advance and pay a deposit. Since customers pay the deposit much earlier, they only finalize the scale of the banquet and the ceremony details ten days before the wedding. At this point, there are often significant differences between the banquet and ceremony prices compared to when the deposit was paid, and price increases are common. By this time, changing the wedding venue is usually too late for many newlyweds, especially since they are constrained by a deposit of several thousand yuan, so they can only accept the situation. Worse still, some venues do not provide official invoices after receiving the deposit and settlement payments for the wedding banquet and ceremony, leaving consumers without evidence to file complaints, leading unresolved issues to be dropped.

Irregularity Four: Unregulated operations, no service contracts, and no service quality standards. Irregular operations are mainly manifested in: substituting wedding cars, wedding cars arriving late, emcees being replaced; fewer photos taken than promised, poor video quality, lost photos and videos later on, demanding extra money, withdrawing midway through the event; unused items in the ceremony charges, price hikes during the ceremony and banquet, frequent use of inferior materials. Wedding services generally lack service contracts and related standards to measure quality levels. Additionally, due to the inability to repeat the wedding scene, these substandard services are essentially forced upon the consuming couples.

How can we reduce and curb the irregularities in the wedding market? A senior industry insider suggests raising the entry threshold. Strictly reviewing the operating qualifications of wedding companies and enhancing the professional competence of personnel in the wedding industry will address the root causes of disorder in the wedding service market. Industry norms need to be established, including unified contracts, quality standards, and service processes. Taxation within the industry needs to be strengthened. For hotels providing wedding services, relevant authorities should regulate their business order to effectively improve service quality and ensure legal compliance in the wedding industry. Clear charging criteria for wedding companies should be defined to effectively curb exorbitant pricing, arbitrary demands, and mid-process price hikes, ensuring consumer rights are adequately protected.
