Early edition report: 18 years ago, a 26-year-old man from Cao County named Wu and his friend were having dinner when they heard that his friend had been overcharged by 10 yuan by a motorcycle taxi driver. To help his friend vent his anger, Wu, fueled by alcohol, joined his friend in beating the motorcycle taxi driver to death with sticks. After the incident, seeing his friend arrested by the police, he began an 18-year escape under the false name of his younger brother. During his escape, even after accidentally injuring his eye, he didn't dare to seek medical treatment at the hospital, ultimately leading to blindness in his left eye. Recently, the Jiaozhou police caught him during a routine inspection of temporary residence permits. Yesterday, it was learned that Wu has been criminally detained.

Wu killed a motorcycle taxi driver to help his friend vent anger.

On October 20, 1993, Wu and his friend Wei were dining at a small restaurant in their hometown in Cao County. During the meal, Wei told Wu that earlier in the day, he had rented a farm tricycle to visit a friend. He had agreed on a fare of 20 yuan with the driver Li, but upon arrival, the driver forcibly demanded 30 yuan. Seeing Wei's anger, Wu, who was always ready to stand up for justice, decided to "teach" the driver a lesson after finishing the meal. In the afternoon, the two brought ropes and sticks and lured Li to a remote area under the pretense of renting the vehicle. They first hung Li on a tree and subjected him to "severe torture." Seeing that Li still refused to admit his mistake, the two beat Li with sticks until they injured him fatally. Upon receiving the alarm, the local police captured Wei on the same day. Seeing his friend arrested, Wu began an 18-year escape.

Routine inspections revealed the fugitive murderer.

However, just as the Cao County police were racking their brains about how to capture Wu, on December 10, officers from the Yunxi Police Station in Jiaozhou City unexpectedly found during a routine inspection of temporary residence permits at a furniture company in Jiaozhou that a left-eye disabled man named "Wu Qixin" matched very closely with the identity information of the online wanted suspect for intentional murder, Wu. Subsequently, the police quickly contacted the Cao County police and discovered that there indeed was a man named "Wu Qixin" in a certain village in Suzi Town, Cao County. This man had always resided in his hometown and had not gone out, and his left eye was not blind. However, his older brother Wu had been on the run for 18 years due to a murder case. Based on the photo of Wu passed on by the Cao County police, after comparison, the investigating police confirmed that this eye-disabled man was the fugitive murderer Wu. After confirming Wu's identity, on December 12, the investigating police captured Wu in a rented house in Jiaozhou.

Injured eyes but dared not seek hospital treatment.

According to Wu's confession, after the incident, he "conveniently" took his younger brother's ID card and fled to Beijing, impersonating his younger brother's name while working as a laborer on a construction site in Beijing. During his escape, Wu never dared to mention his family to his coworkers, fearing that he might reveal the truth after drinking, so he also quit drinking. In November 2000, while working on the construction site, Wu accidentally injured his left eye with a steel bar. Although he was immediately taken to the hospital by his coworkers, fearing exposure, he hastily discharged himself after receiving 5,000 yuan in compensation from the construction site without undergoing treatment, which ultimately led to the blindness of his left eye. After suffering disability in his left eye, Wu moved around doing odd jobs in Yantai, Weihai, and Qingdao. In October this year, he escaped to Jiaozhou and worked at a furniture company.

Yesterday, it was learned that the Jiaozhou police will hand over Wu to the Cao County police in the near future.
