Washington, Aug 14 (IANS) US President Barack Obama on Saturday urged Congress to act on his proposals to boost the economy and create jobs, Xinhua reported. "There are things that Congress can do right now," Obama said in his weekly radio and Internet address. The president listed several initiatives, including trade agreements, improving the patent system, and an extension of a cut in the tax workers pay for social security. "In the coming weeks, I will be putting forward additional proposals to help our businesses hire and create more jobs, and I won't stop until every American who wants a job can find one," he said, adding that partisan politics must be set aside. 'We can no longer let partisan thrillers get in our way--the idea that getting through the next election is more important than doing the right thing,' the president said. Republicans calculate that Obama has failed to make the economy grow. They also claim that the government has burdened businesses with stricter regulations and discouraged them from expanding and hiring. The US unemployment rate currently at 9.1 percent remains the central challenge for the Obama administration. The economy grew only 1.3 percent in the second quarter of this year.
