Trailing into Tianhe City, then trailing again to rob a sedan car, killing after encountering resistance. The case of the "murder of a Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts associate professor in Chinese painting department" which has attracted widespread attention and many speculations, was prosecuted by the People's Procuratorate of Guangzhou on the previous day. The People's Procuratorate of Guangzhou believed that this was a robbery case resulting in death, and defendant Zhang Baobao is suspected of killing victim Li Mou during the process of robbing him to subdue his resistance.
According to the notification from the city's Procuratorate, at 15:00 on July 10, 2011, defendant Zhang Baobao carried a fruit knife, tape, etc., and went to the area near the Tianhe City Department Store in Tianhe District, Guangzhou, waiting for an opportunity to commit a robbery.
At around 9 p.m., victim Li Mou drove an Audi sedan to go shopping in Tianhe South, Guangzhou, parking the car at a metered parking spot on Tianhe Nan Road. Defendant Zhang Baobao immediately identified Li Mou as his target, tracking him until he entered the Tianhe City Department Store.
At around 10 p.m., when victim Li Mou came out of the Tianhe City Department Store, defendant Zhang Baobao followed behind him, taking advantage of Li Mou returning to the car to tidy up items in the passenger seat, rushing into the car and threatening Li Mou to hand over his belongings, which was met with resistance from Li Mou. Zhang Baobao then used a fruit knife and CD discs from the car to stab Li Mou's face, and subsequently strangled Li Mou's neck with the strap of his cross-body bag, causing his death. According to the forensic examination, victim Li Mou died from mechanical asphyxiation caused by blunt force trauma to the neck.
Afterwards, defendant Zhang Baobao took about 7,000 yuan in cash from victim Li Mou's pocket and fled the scene. On September 3, 2011, defendant Zhang Baobao was arrested in Rongcheng, Shandong.
The People's Procuratorate of Guangzhou believed that defendant Zhang Baobao disregarded national laws, using violent means to rob others of their property, resulting in death, with clear criminal facts and sufficient evidence, and should be held criminally responsible for the crime of robbery.
