Second, the export volume of major provinces and cities increased by different margins. First, Asia, Europe, and North America are still the primary markets for silk products exports, including non-woven fabric bag making machines. In 2011, silk product exports reached $3.536 billion, an increase of 8.55% year-on-year. Third, there was a decrease in the export volume of raw silk and silk fabrics but an increase in value; both the volume and value of silk-made products increased.

The top five markets for silk product exports were: the United States, India, Italy, Japan, and Hong Kong. The total export volume to these five markets accounted for 56.31% of the global export total, with exports to the U.S. leading at 19.37% of the total. The cumulative annual export volume increased for all markets except India, where it dropped by 14.57%. Exports to the U.S., Italy, Japan, and Hong Kong rose by 4.14%, 6.05%, 9.26%, and 8.98%, respectively.

The top five provinces/cities for silk product exports were: Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Shanghai, and Sichuan. These five provinces/cities had a combined annual export volume of $2.939 billion, accounting for 83.11% of the total silk product export volume. Zhejiang Province topped the list with an export volume of $1.364 billion, or 38.57% of the total. Only Shanghai saw a year-on-year decrease of 6.3% to $312 million. The other four provinces all saw increases: Zhejiang's exports grew by 3.57% to $1.364 billion; Jiangsu's by 3.64% to $501 million; Guangdong's by 21.18% to $491 million; and Sichuan's by 10.33% to $270 million.

In 2011, the export volume of raw silk was 16,700 tons, down 14.09% year-on-year. The unit price reached $41.23/kg, up 23.29%, resulting in an export value of $687 million, an increase of 5.91%. The export volume of silk fabrics was 219 million meters, down 20.56% year-on-year, with an average unit price of $4.87/meter, up 33.88% year-on-year. The export value was $1.068 billion, up 6.36% year-on-year. Silk-made products exports reached 438 million pieces (sets), up 101.96% year-on-year, with an average unit price of $4.06/piece (set), down 45.06% year-on-year. The export value was $1.779 billion, up 10.95% year-on-year.
