Photo by Nandu reporter Zai Fu Liu Reported by Nandu reporter Jiming Kou, a Sichuan籍 man fainted from hunger on the street in Houjie Baihao. Despite their doubts, people from nearby shops still generously gave money, bought him food and water, and collected more than 140 yuan for his travel expenses. The man kept kowtowing to express his gratitude. Yesterday afternoon, on the way to send this man to the Nancheng bus station, he kept sighing: "There are still many kind-hearted people." The man knelt down to thank those who sponsored him on the street. "At 2 pm yesterday, there was a man who fainted from hunger on the street opposite Houjie Baihao Primary School," reported the staff of the stores near Green洲 Avenue, Baihao Village, Houjie. When the reporter arrived, the man who had fainted had already eaten at a restaurant that kindly provided food and was walking to Baisa Yicun, which belongs to Humen Town. Mr. Cui and Ms. Yuan, who had been driving and following this man, introduced that the man claimed he was going to Meizhou but got into trouble in Baihao due to being robbed. Now everyone had contributed more than 140 yuan for him, but the man said he still needed 30 yuan to buy a ticket to Meizhou. After Nandu reporter gave the man 100 yuan, the gray-haired man shed tears and wanted to kowtow to express his gratitude but was supported by the reporter. Immediately, the man knelt down again to thank Mr. Cui and Ms. Yuan, drawing the attention of many passers-by. The ID card showed that the man surnamed Yuan, from Xichong County, Sichuan, was 42 years old. When recounting his experience, he claimed, "I feel so ashamed, my brother would beat me to death if he knew." People hesitated but still sponsored his travel expenses. The man claimed he worked with his brother in Meizhou and returned home last month to handle a relative's funeral. Five days ago, while returning from his hometown in Sichuan to Meizhou, he encountered robbers at the Dongguan highway exit during a vehicle transfer at night. All his personal belongings and luggage were stolen, so he walked all the way to Houjie Baihao Village and hadn't eaten or drunk for four days. Coupled with the scorching sun, he fainted on the roadside. According to Ms. Yuan, who drove and followed the man, when she went to work at the "Hixin Real Estate Intermediary" on Green洲 Avenue, Baihao Village, she saw a crowd gathered at the nearby "Shiwowei" restaurant. The man was eating while crying and telling his story. It turned out that the restaurant waiter first found the man fainting on the side of the road, and the boss let the chef prepare food for him. At first, Ms. Yuan thought it was a scam until the man took out his ID card. Surprisingly, they were of the same surname and even from the same county. When questioned, the man was quite familiar with the towns under the jurisdiction of Xichong County. Thus, Ms. Yuan led the donation for the man, giving 20 yuan, 10 yuan, and 5 yuan, quickly collecting more than 140 yuan. The man knelt down several times to express his gratitude. "There are still many kind-hearted people" Why go to Meizhou via Dongguan? Why did he say the ticket price was 140 yuan at first, but after giving him the money, he still said it wasn't enough? Ms. Yuan had doubts and hoped that she had helped someone truly in need, so under the accompaniment of the store manager, Mr. Cui, she drove and followed the man, "If he really goes to the station to buy tickets and doesn't have enough money, the store manager planned to fully help him purchase the ticket." Yesterday afternoon, after consulting various stations, the reporter decided to send this man to the Nancheng Bus Station to take a bus to Meizhou. On the way, he recounted his experiences over the past few days, saying that he had sought help from relevant departments but failed, and initially wanted to beg, but was scolded by someone from a shop, so he vowed not to beg anymore; later, he looked for food in the trash can and ate rotten meat, causing diarrhea for two days, so he dared not eat food from the trash can anymore; he drank rainwater and water leaking from air conditioning pipes, resulting in fainting from hunger on the street. Recalling these experiences over the past few days, this Mr. Yuan repeatedly said, "There are still many kind-hearted people."
