The US Air Mobility Command Procures 18,000 iPad 2 Units
Tech Sina News, early morning of March 3rd, Beijing time - According to foreign media reports on Friday, despite the possibility that the U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command may cancel its plan to purchase a large number of iPads, another military agency, the Air Mobility Command, will continue to procure iPads.
The Air Mobility Command announced on Friday that it had signed a $9 million order to purchase 18,000 32GB iPad 2 units, averaging approximately $520 per unit. The contract was signed with computer service provider Executive Technology and will become the largest military procurement order for tablets to date.
It is reported that the Air Mobility Command had previously purchased 63 iPad 2 units for small-scale testing. At that time, they indicated that if the product could effectively replace the 40-pound (approximately 18.14 kg) navigation charts and flight manuals currently used by pilots and navigators, the command would place more orders and equip more crew members with iPads.
The upcoming debut of the iPad 3 next week is expected, and this procurement news undoubtedly provides a strong boost to the future development of the iPad. (By Lin Jing)
