On the afternoon of January 30, a gruesome scene unfolded in front of the South China Grand Hotel in Sanya: A conflict erupted between three touts soliciting customers at the Dadonghai Beach and the employees of the South China Grand Hotel. The incident left the three touts injured, one of whom was sent to the intensive care unit. On the evening of February 15, Li Weixing, the most severely injured, succumbed to his injuries. Currently, the police have requested approval for the arrest of 12 employees of the South China Grand Hotel who have been criminally detained.
On the day of the incident, after receiving a tip-off, the reporter rushed to the People's Hospital of Sanya where two injured men lay in the emergency room awaiting treatment. Feng Jianzhu, whose face was almost completely covered in blood, was one of the victims. Huang Linyin, who sustained relatively lighter injuries, told the reporter that all three victims were from Jiangxi province. They usually earned commissions by soliciting tourists on the beach for diving activities, with each customer bringing them about ten to twenty yuan from the marine entertainment company. Around 1 PM that day, while Huang was playing cards on the beach, his fellow townsman Deng Hongyou approached him, saying he had been verbally abused by the security guards of the South China Grand Hotel. One guard even physically assaulted him. Huang recounted that he and a few fellow townsmen went to reason with the hotel's security guards, but before they could say two words, more than a dozen hotel employees armed with wooden sticks and shovels attacked them. "Everyone ran for their lives; we three were too slow and were beaten half to death." Later, the reporter visited the No. 425 Hospital of the PLA and saw Li Weixing, the most seriously injured, being urgently treated in the resuscitation room.
On February 16, Li Weixing's fellow townsman informed the reporter that Li passed away on the evening of the 15th, and the forensic doctor had conducted an autopsy on the deceased. On the 16th, the reporter learned from the police that 12 employees of the South China Grand Hotel involved in the beating have been requested for approval of arrest. (Source: Nandao Evening News)
