How to treat urethritis?

1. Use medication based on the causative bacteria. In addition to the commonly known mycoplasma and chlamydia (main infecting microorganisms), 10%-20% of cases can also be caused by Trichomonas vaginalis, Candida albicans, Staphylococcus aureus, streptococcus, yeast, anaerobic Gram-negative bacilli, etc. Therefore, the treatment for non-gonococcal urethritis should vary from person to person and depend on the type of infecting microorganism to determine the medication.

2. Sufficient course of treatment. Mycoplasma and chlamydia are intracellular parasites that are less sensitive to antibiotics than common bacteria, so the duration of medication should be relatively longer, usually about two weeks. Patients should not blindly purchase and take medicine themselves, as this may cause the pathogenic bacteria to come into contact with the drug without being killed, leading to drug resistance, making the drug ineffective next time.

3. Preferably use a single drug. The interaction between drugs is complex and changeable. Generally speaking, unless it is known that there is a synergistic complementary effect between them, two or more drugs should not be used simultaneously to treat non-gonococcal urethritis. Because doing so is often harmful and unbeneficial; for example, the antagonistic effect between drugs can reduce efficacy, increase treatment costs, and increase the number of drug-resistant strains in pathogens, thus increasing the difficulty of further treatment.

4. Emphasize the examination and treatment of sexual partners. Due to various reasons, some people who have sexually transmitted diseases do not want their families to know, so they neglect the diagnosis and treatment of their sexual partners, resulting in repeated infections, which does not mean that the treatment is ineffective.

5. Pay attention to enhancing the body's disease resistance. While drug therapy treats urethritis, it needs the cooperation of the body's disease resistance ability to achieve better results. Drinking alcohol and continuing sexual activity (even if using condoms) during treatment will greatly reduce efficacy, which is easily overlooked among some young people. In addition, irregular living patterns, eating spicy hotpot and other foods, excessive fatigue, having chronic diseases, etc., can also affect treatment.

Factors causing urethritis:

1. Inflammatory stimulation: Acute cystitis, tuberculous cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis, vulvitis, etc., can all lead to frequent urination. Under inflammatory stimulation, frequent urination, urgent urination, and painful urination may occur simultaneously, known as urinary tract irritation symptoms.

2. Increased urine output: In physiological conditions, such as drinking large amounts of water, due to increased water intake, urine output also increases, and the frequency of urination increases, resulting in frequent urination. In pathological conditions, such as some diabetic patients and those with diabetes insipidus, they drink more water, produce more urine, and urinate more frequently.

3. Psychoneurotic frequent urination. Further detailed examinations at the hospital are needed to clarify the cause and carry out targeted effective treatment. Generally, frequent urination is caused by inflammation and should be taken seriously, and active treatment should be sought at regular hospitals; otherwise, it is easy to cause ascending infection, leading to difficult-to-treat conditions.

4. Non-inflammatory stimulation: Such as urinary tract stones, foreign bodies, etc.

5. Reduced bladder capacity: Such as bladder space-occupying lesions, tuberculous bladder contracture, or larger bladder stones, etc.
