Lin's Theatrical Life
On March 9, 2011, Lin sent a message to Zhuo: "I had an enlightening heart-to-heart talk with a certain leader all morning. This police uniform is my foundation, and I will handle the situation properly. Let go of your worries, brother, I won't continue making mistakes."

The story about Lin often mentioned by people is the one about eating noodle soup with Louis XIII. It was said that one evening, Lin and several town officials and businessmen went to a roadside stall to eat noodle soup. He took out a bottle of Louis XIII from the trunk of his car and let everyone drink it. Later, this story spread.
Yesterday morning, Lin was escorted into the courtroom of the Nan'an City People's Court in Fujian Province, standing as the defendant. After the incident, there was only over 300 yuan in his bank account. During the trial, an angry victim's family member threw off their shoes and hit Lin, who was awkwardly escorted out of the court.
In January 2008, Lin was promoted to fourth-level detective. It was said that year he was reported by the family of a case party, and then transferred to the Xiangyun Police Station. At that time, the police station chief Huang (who was suspected of illegal activities and dealt with separately) was transferred to the Economic Investigation Brigade of the Nan'an Public Security Bureau and was not at the police station most of the time. There were only five police officers at the police station. In many occasions, Lin introduced himself as the "police station head" and emphasized that he was "in charge."
Seeing that Zhuo was already hooked, Lin threw out the bait. In April 2009, Lin told Zhuo that he was cooperating with several cooperatives to specifically handle loan rollover services for enterprises. It was short-term and fast income, inviting Zhuo to join. Initially, Lin only requested small short-term loans, with agreed monthly interest rates ranging from 4% to 5%. On time, Lin could repay the loans. Within half a year, they cooperated more than ten times.
The prosecution claimed during the trial that there were over 500 million yuan worth of transactions between Lin and Zhuo in just over a year.
Two or three months later, the amount of borrowed money gradually increased, reaching 500,000 yuan, 1 million yuan, 5 million yuan, and never decreased after that. In January 2010, the transaction amount between them reached 10 million yuan, and subsequent transactions were around 10 million yuan. Zhuo said he didn't have that much cash and had to raise money from relatives and friends, then lend it to Lin. He said that within over a year, he earned over 10 million yuan in interest from Lin.
Lin explained to Zhuo much later that starting from the first month of 2010, he helped a company repay a large loan, but the loan couldn't be obtained, which resulted in the subsequent funds being empty circulation.
The source of the money: Faking and boasting to swindle huge sums
It was understood that when the Nan'an police were investigating evidence, they found a hostess at a nightclub in Shijing, originally hoping to find where Lin's fraud money went, but instead heard complaints: this young woman from another province, after being with Lin, not only didn't get money from him, but her hard-earned savings of over 100,000 yuan were taken by Lin. She only got back a few ten thousand yuan because of an urgent need for money at home. By the time Lin's case broke out, she still hadn't recovered over 20,000 yuan.
Even more bizarre was that Zhuo recalled that during the Spring Festival in 2010, Lin found him, saying that since he had borrowed so much money from him and made him earn so much interest, he should give him some gifts in return. Zhuo had no choice but to buy four bottles of Louis XIII at 13,000 yuan per bottle for Lin. When Lin opened the trunk of his car, Zhuo saw it was filled with soft Zhonghua cigarettes and various foreign wines, including quite a few bottles of Louis XIII.

"Afterward, I couldn't pay back both principal and interest together anymore. Sometimes I would transfer the interest, sometimes I would pay part of the principal and borrow again a few days later." Zhuo said that by August 2010, he couldn't get any money back from Lin anymore, and Lin owed him over 40 million yuan in principal and interest.
After reuniting as adults, Zhuo became a credit officer at a credit union in Shijing, while Lin was the "deputy chief" (a title Lin gave himself) of the Xiangyun Police Station in Nan'an.
The first time Zhuo lent 100,000 yuan, a week later he received the principal and interest. Not long after, Lin continued borrowing 100,000 yuan regularly, repaying both principal and interest after a week.
A person who had dealings with Lin recalled that around 2004, many people would give two bottles of XO as gifts, but Lin was different, often carrying 2-liter bottles of XO, a whole box of 12 bottles at a time, "For some relationships, he was very generous and willing to spend money."
Prosecution Charge: Fraud of Over 26 Million Yuan
How the Money Was Spent: Buying BMWs and Supporting Multiple Mistresses
An informed source revealed that just before his confinement ended, Lin called one of his mistresses, roughly saying "You'll see me tomorrow." The next day, on March 18, the Nan'an Public Security Bureau held a party committee meeting to decide on criminally detaining him. As for where the involved money went, it was said that the Nan'an police had repeatedly urged him to return the stolen money, but without success.
Before borrowing money from Zhuo, he had already owed over 8 million yuan and was being pressured by creditors, some of whom even came to his workplace to cause trouble. To maintain peace, he used the money borrowed from Zhuo to repay these creditors.
"That period of time was mentally stressful, and I had a reckless attitude, leading to a rather chaotic personal life," Lin explained another aspect of spending money. Folklore claims that despite being married, he kept over five mistresses outside. Evidence presented by the prosecution in court showed that Lin supported two or three mistresses. For these matters, Lin remained silent for a long time, unwilling to elaborate, instead claiming, "I have the right to remain silent."
A friend of Lin's in Shijing said that Lin was a regular at entertainment venues in Shuitou and Shijing, spending extravagantly. Previously, Lin had invested in opening seafood restaurants, internet cafes, and jewelry stores in Shijing, but did not make much money, even suffering losses. Few knew that he had also invested in other industries.
"Scoundrel! Slut!" Zhuo's relatives, upon seeing Lin, angrily cursed him. Lin calmly turned around and looked at them after removing the hood.
In fact, Lin's criminal process was far more dramatic than what was stated in the indictment.
The court will announce the verdict on another day.
Lin, dressed in a police uniform, wore a famous watch worth over 200,000 yuan, "one hand holding Louis XIII, the other nearly ten thousand yuan worth of good tea," and through this, he defrauded over 26 million yuan.
Lin was born in June 1981, graduated from a public security school in 2003, and entered the Nan'an public security system, initially working in the criminal investigation department. In October 2009, he was transferred to the Xiangyun Police Station, and on June 7, 2010, he was transferred to the Lefeng Police Station.
In January 2010, Lin borrowed 10 million yuan from Zhuo under the pretext that multiple companies in Quanzhou, Xiamen, and Fuzhou urgently needed funds, setting a record for the largest single loan between them. Starting from August of that year, Lin stopped repaying the money, owing a total of over 40 million yuan in principal and interest. Zhuo tried every method to ask Lin for the money, but Lin always evaded with various excuses.
"Scoundrel! Slut!" During the trial, Zhuo's wife Ms. Yang and mother, enraged by Lin's sophistry, interrupted the judge several times. When Lin refused to disclose the whereabouts of the money again, Zhuo's mother, over 60 years old, suddenly stood up from the third row of seats, stepped to the second row, took off one shoe, and attempted to throw it at Lin. Several court bailiffs quickly restrained her. At that moment, Ms. Yang sitting beside her, took advantage of the bailiffs' distraction, took off one shoe, and hit Lin.
Self-Proclaimed Realization But Too Late
"I was deceived horribly by him; he caused great harm to my relatives and friends," Zhuo said after the trial.
Where did the over 26 million yuan go? This was the biggest focus of the trial. Facing repeated questioning from the prosecutor and judge, Lin said it was mainly spent in three parts.
In the Nan'an public security system, many people had something to say about Lin. Those who didn't know Lin would say "heard of his great name," while those who worked with Lin described him more as "very daring."
Afterwards, Lin's appetite grew larger, demanding loans in the millions. Seeing the previous cooperation went well and was profitable, Zhuo developed some relatives and friends as fundraising targets.
In February 2011, Lin showed Zhuo two contracts, claiming that the borrowed money had been invested in real estate development projects in Wuhan. Zhuo contacted the lawyer marked on the contract and was told that they had not handled the matter and had not witnessed the contract, which was fabricated.
Later, Lin frequently found Zhuo to drink tea and chat, saying that he was the deputy chief of the Xiangyun Police Station and knew many big leaders. In their subsequent interactions, Lin drove a BMW, wore brand-name clothes, and carried a watch worth hundreds of thousands of yuan, spending lavishly. This confused Zhuo, leaving little doubt about his identity and abilities.
"Everyone would joke with him, calling him 'Boss Lin,' and he would laugh and willingly listen," a police officer told reporters that Lin often combed his hair neatly, even at work, he rarely wore his police uniform. His clothes and bags were all brand names, and the cigarettes he smoked were mostly soft Zhonghua. Several times when he opened the trunk of his car, there were many fine wines and cigarettes inside.
In March 2009, Lin accompanied his father to borrow money urgently from a cooperative, wanting to guarantee the loan with his status as a police officer, but this did not comply with the rules, so he asked a boss for help.
Lin did not expect to meet Zhuo in such a place. Afterwards, Lin frequently found Zhuo to drink tea and chat, saying that he was the deputy chief of the Xiangyun Police Station and knew many important leaders. In their subsequent interactions, Lin drove a BMW, wore brand-name clothes, and carried a watch worth hundreds of thousands of yuan, spending lavishly. His clothes and bags were all brand names, and the cigarettes he smoked were mostly soft Zhonghua. Several times when he opened the trunk of his car, there were many fine wines and cigarettes inside.
In the courtroom, the prosecutor from Quanzhou People's Procuratorate loudly read Lin's indictment: From June 2007 to October 2, 2008, Lin forged marriage certificates, state-owned land use certificates, and property certificates, defrauding Huang from Nan'an of 3.65 million yuan, which has not been repaid to this day; from May 2009 to August 2010, Lin defrauded Zhuo of over 23 million yuan. The prosecution believed that Lin intended to illegally possess the victims' money, forging relevant documents to defraud them, and should be held criminally responsible for fraud.
Regarding the prosecution's charges, Lin admitted guilt, except for the claim regarding defrauding Mr. Huang of over 3 million yuan. He said that in good conscience, he had repaid a significant portion, and the remaining debt was just the principal. Finally, he said he would accept any judgment from the court and would not appeal. He would write letters from prison to his relatives and friends, sincerely asking them to try their best to help him repay some of the money, to reduce the victims' losses and express his apologies. He would do everything possible in his lifetime to repay his debts.
The scene fell into chaos, and the court bailiffs hurriedly escorted Lin, who was embarrassed, out of the courtroom, interrupting the trial for a few minutes before continuing. Afterwards, several bailiffs directly sat next to Ms. Yang and others to prevent further incidents.
One of Lin's classmates from the police academy said: "When he first started working, he often didn't have money, and once our salaries were issued, he would borrow from everyone. Many small amounts were never asked for repayment, but gradually, many people dared not lend him money anymore."
Zhuo claimed that it was around April 2009, Lin was very generous, driving luxury cars, wearing watches and clothes that were all branded.
"Why did he owe over 8 million yuan to others beforehand? Even if we subtract that, where did the remaining over 18 million yuan go?" This is what the victims want to know most.
Colleagues often saw Lin change watches, and most of them were luxury brands. He had an Omega watch, reportedly worth over 200,000 yuan, "everyone joked that he wore a Camry car on his wrist."
Simultaneously, due to the high interest rates on the money borrowed from Zhuo, sometimes the borrowed money was used to pay interest to Zhuo. After auditing, the total financial transactions between Lin and Zhuo amounted to over 500 million yuan.
At the time of the incident, their financial transaction records reached 5 billion yuan.
Unfortunately, it was too late.
On March 12, 2011, after receiving a report, the Nan'an Public Security Bureau immediately placed Lin under house arrest and participated in the investigation.
Outside the courtroom, some relatives of the victims held banners demanding severe punishment for Lin. Lin's two luxury cars had already been seized by the police.
"More exciting than a play." A police officer involved in the case commented like this.
Before his arrest, Lin was a police officer at the Lefeng Police Station of the Nan'an Public Security Bureau in Fujian Province. On March 18, 2011, after eight years in the police force, he was criminally detained by the Nan'an police on suspicion of massive fraud.
At the gate of the court, some relatives of the victim Zhuo held signs demanding severe punishment for Lin, shouting loudly on the road.
Because Lin often sprayed perfume when going out, in the Nan'an Municipal Procuratorate, many departments gave him a nickname —— "Perfume Brother."
On April 22, the Nan'an Procuratorate formally approved the arrest of Lin, and later, due to the severity of the case, it was transferred to the Quanzhou Procuratorate for investigation.
