Sixty-year-old man addicted to gaming machines resorts to theft; during labor education outside the facility, he伸"black hand" again.

Yantai, November 14th (reported by Qi Lu, correspondent Fangqiu Li) At around 2:20 AM on the 14th, Zhang, aged 65, stole three bags of steel pipes from a construction site at Northwest Mountain in the High-Tech Zone. Unexpectedly, he was caught by the construction workers who then reported the incident to the police. Upon investigation, it was revealed that Zhang is a retired traditional Chinese medicine doctor who, unfortunately, became addicted to gaming machines and lost all his money, leading him to steal for financial support.

At around 2:30 AM on the 14th, at a construction site in the northwest mountain area of the High-Tech Zone, a suspicious figure drew the attention of the construction workers. When this person attempted to leave dragging three seemingly heavy bags, they were caught on the spot. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the individual had stolen three bags of steel pipes. With the evidence in hand, the construction workers immediately called the police and handed the suspect over to the Wolong Police Station.

At the Wolong Police Station, the man confessed that his surname is Zhang, and he is 65 years old, originally from Dezhou, where he worked as a game machine manufacturer. He had divorced his wife long ago and had no children. Under police questioning, Zhang admitted, "I used to be a Chinese medicine practitioner with clinical experience at various hospitals in Dezhou," possessing special remedies and patents for treating psoriasis. In March 2010, Zhang came to Weihai hoping to start a new career.

Unexpectedly, one day in 2010, Zhang happened to pass by an arcade and decided to go inside and play. This casual visit turned into an addiction, making it hard for Zhang to break free.

Once addicted, Zhang spent almost all his time in the arcade. The gaming machines did not always bring winnings, and before long, Zhang had lost several tens of thousands of yuan in the arcade, leaving him without even enough money for a decent meal.

After losing his entire savings of several ten thousand yuan, Zhang had to find ways to raise more money. Dreaming of getting rich quick, he resorted to theft.

Upon investigation by the police, it was found that Zhang was a habitual offender. In November 2010, he was criminally detained for five months due to theft. In June 2011, he was detained for five days for stealing watermelons from a melon stand in Huancui District. In October 2011, he was sentenced to one and a half years of labor education (executed outside the facility) for stealing iron clips from the Weigao Group in Weihai. This theft occurred during his period of labor education.

Since Zhang committed another theft while undergoing labor education outside the facility, the case is currently under further review.
