The emphasis on both performance and appearance has kept bomber jackets popular until today. As the name suggests, the bomber jacket (aviator jacket) was originally specially designed for pilots. Most of them adopted a style that reached down to the thighs with a cinched waist. The body of the jacket was mainly made of leather, and the fur on the collar was almost a unique mark that all pilots were proud of, because at that time this style was one of the few men's clothing items with fur. When the Wright brothers invented the airplane, pilots wore them just for windproofing and warmth when sitting at altitudes above 6000 meters. At that time, the adjustable lamb skin collar became an essential functional detail. However, with the invention of the enclosed cockpit, after World War I, people found that the knee-length hem was very cumbersome, making it very inconvenient for pilots in the cockpit to move their feet. Thus, a new type of bomber jacket was born. They became shorter, and elastic materials were used at the cuffs and collar. The A-1 type bomber jacket is representative of this style. Later, with the advancement of technology, various improved types of bomber jackets were continuously developed, and even the current fashion brand Burberry once participated in the design of such clothing. In recent seasons, many popular military-style garments are variants of the bomber jackets that were popular back then, and there are more diverse ways to pair them. For example, since 1947, people have become accustomed to wearing shirts and ties under the jackets, giving a relatively low-key impression, which is better than wearing all the military accessories.

A-2 Bomber Jacket

In 1931, the A-2 was officially listed as the flight suit of the U.S. Army Air Corps (the former name of the U.S. Air Force). Its material was horsehide, mainly in brown and brownish colors, with a very small part using cowhide or goatskin.

The material of the A-2 is basically divided into seven parts: one for the back, two for the front, and four for the left and right sleeves. Its collar design is very practical, with multiple connection methods. The front panel has two patch pockets with flaps to prevent the contents from spilling out. The most recognized beautiful version appeared during World War II. The pilots in the movie "Pearl Harbor" wore this style of jacket.

Currently, the A-2 still in production includes active military versions, commercial versions launched by active military version manufacturers for the civilian market, and various World War II replicas, but the differences are not significant.
