The development of outdoor training in Beijing has spanned 20 years. Today's outdoor training has changed significantly from the past, with a wide variety of projects. The training model that focuses on site-based exercises is more common. What was early outdoor training in Beijing like? Many people are interested in this question, so let me give you a brief introduction to the type of training that early Beijing outdoor companies provided.
Some people might ask upon seeing the title: Was outdoor training only available in early Beijing? Did no other provinces in China offer such courses? It is necessary to explain why I emphasize Beijing outdoor courses in this article. As early as 1995, outdoor enthusiasts registered an outdoor training company in Beijing, which was one of the earliest outdoor companies. It wasn't until ten years later that it spread to other provinces in China. Therefore, the mention of Beijing outdoor companies in this article serves to provide a general overview. Let us now explore what early outdoor training was like.
The requirements for early outdoor training courses were consistent. They all implemented wilderness travel-style outdoor training to enhance team cohesion and personal breakthroughs. Training would start every morning, practically as soon as participants opened their eyes. A day’s training would conclude once everyone reached the destination. Upon reaching the destination, participants would share experiences. Along the journey from point A to point B, there would be various other training projects involved, such as rappelling, rock climbing, river tracing, and cooking over an open fire — a very popular segment at the time.
During these rugged journeys, participants would encounter steep terrains, traverse long forests, snowfields, tundras, narrow or fast-flowing rivers, lakes of varying lengths, and even ride the waves. Travel-style outdoor training requires perseverance and the ability to understand the environment, demanding high levels of outdoor survival experience from trainees. This also poses a challenge to the training itself. Of course, along the way, there would be route exploration, navigation, and dealing with harsh weather conditions. These are genuine challenges and can be expected aspects of wilderness travel. Rest was rare during the activities, and due to severe weather, many people couldn't endure until the end of the activity.
Completing the most primitive form of outdoor training may, in itself, be the toughest training for you. It will challenge your spirit, body, and social environment. Outdoor philosophy suggests that facing challenges, primitive outdoor training not only strengthens your physical constitution but also enhances your team awareness. More importantly, after the activity, you'll find yourself capable of independently accomplishing many things you previously couldn't imagine. You'll also experience significant psychological growth and gain a deep understanding of outdoor activities. For these reasons, some people become crazily addicted to outdoor adventure activities after participating in such training once.
Primitive outdoor training also helps you understand what true team activities and real teams are, as well as how to become an excellent team leader. Although early outdoor training was exhausting — indeed very exhausting — we believe it leaves behind lasting memories and enduring spiritual wealth.
