Japanese apparel imports show double-digit growth

According to the preliminary figures, in 2011, clothing imports amounted to JPY 222.2929 trillion, an increase of 11.7% over the previous year. The volume of fashionable women's wear imports increased by 5.1%, reaching 3.93727 billion pieces. China is the largest exporter of women's wear to Japan, with a market share of over 80%. The value of its exports increased by 8.1% and the volume increased by 1.6%, reaching JPY 181.0326 trillion and 3.38377 billion pieces respectively. However, imports from other countries also grew significantly, such as Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. The volume of knitted products imports increased by 3.1% and the value increased by 8.9%, reaching 2.68386 billion pieces and JPY 115.2556 trillion respectively.
