Justice Network Liaoning, July 1 (Communicators Liu Yiwei, Guo Shusen, and Zhu Mei) - Recently, Wang Ce, a college student who fled after committing murder twelve years ago, was sentenced to life in prison by the Chaoyang City Intermediate People's Court for intentional homicide. Wang Ce was under the age of 18 when he committed the murder but had reached his thirties by the time he was captured.
On the evening of September 10, 1998, in the classroom of Class One, Grade Three at Kazuo County Senior High School, Wang Ce got into an argument and physical fight with his classmate Wang Zhiqiang over trivial matters. They were separated by other classmates, but Wang Ce felt humiliated and could not bear it. He went to the dormitory to retrieve a black plastic-handled knife, then entered the classroom through the back door, jumped over desks, leaped to Wang Zhiqiang’s desk, shouted "Wang Zhiqiang," and stabbed him once in the chest. Wang Zhiqiang was sent to the hospital but died despite medical efforts to save him.
After committing the crime, Wang Ce fled the school during the chaos. He first escaped to Shenyang City, then worked on a construction site for a vehicle segment in Jilin City, Jilin Province, where he settled down until he was apprehended by the police on October 13, 2010.
The court ruled that the defendant Wang Ce had committed a heinous crime with serious consequences and should be punished according to law. At the time of the crime, Wang Ce was over fourteen but under eighteen years old, so according to law, his punishment should be mitigated. Hence, the aforementioned verdict was made.
Wang Ce was less than three months away from being eighteen when he committed the murder, thus avoiding a death sentence.
