Recent news has surfaced that a prequel to the 2008 racing action blockbuster "Death Race" is in the works, with the film's director Paul W.S. Anderson leading the development and production of the prequel.

"Death Race" was a remake of the 1975 cult classic "Death Race 2000," produced by Roger Corman and starring Sylvester Stallone. Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, known for the "Resident Evil" series, and featuring Jason Statham, known for his work in "Transporter," the film grossed $36 million for its producers and received positive reviews, paving the way for a potential sequel. The director has revealed that the prequel will focus on the mysterious character "Frankenstein," who appeared briefly in the original film, creating an entirely new story around this enigmatic figure.

Filming for the prequel will begin after the director completes work on his upcoming project, "Resident Evil 4." It remains uncertain whether Jason Statham will reprise his role as the lead character.
