According to Kyodo News, Canon Chairman Fujiro Mitusawa revealed in an interview with Kyodo and other media outlets during his visit to India on the 9th, that the company plans to expand its revenue in the Indian market to 1 billion US dollars by 2015, more than tripling last year's amount. Canon aims to expand its Asian business, including China, and Mitusawa said that it is expected that the middle class in India will significantly increase in the future, making the market potential very large from a long-term perspective. Canon plans to actively invest to open up sales channels. Specifically, by 2015, the number of Canon product stores will increase from the current 400 to over 1500. The number of specialty stores will also rise from around 50 currently to 300. To match the expansion of sales channels, the workforce will increase from about a thousand people now to 1500. However, regarding whether or not to build a factory locally, Mitusawa stated that India's policies on infrastructure construction and attracting foreign investment are still not sufficient. Currently, other countries are relatively more attractive.
