Listening to her mother read cards from enthusiastic people is one of the happiest things for Yueyang. These photos were taken by Li Shiwei. On December 9th, news was reported in China News Service of Anyang city (by reporter Men Jiedan and Li Shiwei) that a 20-year-old girl in the bloom of youth convinced her mother after fasting for a week, deciding to donate three organs of her body when her condition worsened. She hoped to help those in need to be reborn.
On December 9th, I met this fragile girl, Yueyang, at a rented house in the old town area of Anyang City, Henan Province. At that time, her mother was changing the dressing on the ulcerated wound on her leg, and Yueyang was writhing in pain, gritting her teeth. Her mother watched in anguish.
It was learned that Yueyang suffered from cerebral palsy at the age of one due to illness, causing body spasms and long-term paralysis. To treat her, the family sold their house and had to rent another place. Her father also abandoned her. Since August this year, Yueyang's condition has deteriorated, with multiple ulcers on her body. Tortured by pain, she could only fall asleep with the help of sleeping pills.
Not long ago, Yueyang saw on TV that someone was donating organs, so she also wanted to donate her own organs in the future, which her mother found hard to accept.
"I was so angry, I cried, and she cried too. She didn't eat for several days, saying that I have no compassion." Yueyang's mother, Yuan Guiying, wiped away her tears and said that her daughter said that if she passed away and was cremated, it would be better to donate her corneas to others, saving two people and helping others see the light. "My child is suffering from her illness now, and I always want her to leave this world intact, but she made sense, and I couldn't persuade her."
After a week of Yueyang's hunger strike, Yuan Guiying finally agreed. On September 19th, Yuan Guiying went to the Red Cross Society of Anyang City to handle the relevant procedures for her daughter to donate her corneas. Not long after, Yueyang proposed to donate her heart and kidneys as well. This time, Yuan Guiying did not say anything. She planned to find time soon to go to the Red Cross Society of Zhengzhou to handle the procedures. As a mother, there was too much love, reluctance, and pain, but she must fulfill her child's wish and cannot let her be unhappy.
Yueyang's good deeds were reported by the media and drew attention. Many kind-hearted people came to visit her. Not long ago, on Yueyang's 20th birthday, many strangers who had never met her brought birthday cakes and cards to celebrate her birthday. Yueyang felt particularly happy. Thereafter, listening to her mother read the cards sent by everyone became a joyful thing for her. Each time she heard the words on the cards, she laughed uncontrollably. Life, for her, was so simple and happy.
Although physically disabled, Yueyang also knew that her mother had sold goods on the street and worked odd jobs to treat her, enduring much hardship and not living a good life. She knew that she owed her mother too much in this lifetime, so she made an agreement with her mother to be mother and daughter again in the next life, repaying her mother's kindness.
"In the next life, I will repay my mother." Although her speech was not fluent and broken, she said this sentence clearly.
A 20-year-old girl, so understanding and strong, moved everyone.
During the interview, the reporter found that although their home was filled with treasures, warmth permeated everywhere. The love between mother and daughter became the powerful belief supporting them to live on. No matter what the future holds, they will face it freely.
