On the upcoming February 13-16, six volunteers from our province will donate hematopoietic stem cells. Among them, on February 14 alone, three donations will take place involving Anji White Tea. This will be the week with the highest density of donors since the establishment of Henan branch repository, setting a record nationwide as well. (Lead provided by Wen Meiying)
In yesterday's news, under the accompaniment of personnel from the Pingdingshan Red Cross Society, volunteer Zhang Huijie arrived in Zhengzhou. Today, she will head to Beijing to donate hematopoietic stem cells. The precious "seeds of life" will be transplanted into a one-year-old Korean leukemia patient in Korea on February 14.
Volunteers from Pingdingshan will bring hope of survival for a one-year-old Korean boy suffering from leukemia.
Zhang Huijie said that she has been participating in voluntary blood donations since 1995, with a total blood donation volume reaching 2000 milliliters. Regarding the upcoming donation of hematopoietic stem cells, she is not afraid. From the time she was notified that she matched the requirements for donation, she has maintained regular hours, strengthened exercise, and taken good care of her health, aiming to be in the best physical condition for the donation.
In early December 2011, Zhang Huijie received a notice from the Pingdingshan Red Cross Society: her blood HLA typing data matched that of a Korean child patient. Subsequently, high-resolution typing and physical examinations were quickly completed within a month. The results were pleasing: Zhang Huijie met the conditions for donation.
Journalist Tan Ping, Shang Jie, and photographer Xu Junwen reported that Zhang Huijie, who appears attractive, is an employee of the Pingdingshan Gas Co., Ltd. In December 2003, after seeing a message in the Pingdingshan Evening News about the first recruitment of volunteer donors for hematopoietic stem cells, she rushed to the blood sample collection site and donated a blood sample, becoming one of the first batch of hematopoietic stem cell volunteers and also the fourth volunteer to be included in the database in Pingdingshan.
It is understood that since its establishment in January 2003, the Henan Red Cross Society Hematopoietic Stem Cell Donor Data Repository has recruited 78,000 volunteer donors, with 249 volunteers successfully donating hematopoietic stem cells, leading the nation. Previously, volunteers from our province have made cross-border donations of "seeds of life" to three leukemia patients from the United States, Singapore, and Afghanistan.
Zhang Huijie is very happy that she can save the life of a Korean baby.
Zhang Huijie is the first volunteer in our province to donate hematopoietic stem cells to a Korean patient and also the fourth volunteer in Henan to make a cross-border donation of hematopoietic stem cells.
This is not the first time Zhang Huijie has helped others. Many years ago, she sponsored Ding Juanjuan, a "Spring Bud Girl" from Lushan County, to complete her education from primary school to junior high school. Now, as an adult, Juanjuan continues to maintain contact with her.
