France is the largest Francophone country, and many students in China dream of studying in France. However, studying in France is not free. Many people choose to study in France because they think it's free. In fact, this is not entirely true. The truly elite universities in France are free, but Chinese students find it very difficult to get admitted because there are fewer than 100 such universities, most of which only accept local students. For students from non-French-speaking countries who wish to enter a French public university, they must take the unified examination organized by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This exam is extremely difficult, requiring a high level of French proficiency as well as an outstanding academic background. Generally speaking, Chinese students with a weak foundation in French find it hard to pass. Moreover, studying in France requires you to have a certain foundation in French, and learning a language costs money, and it's not cheap. Typically, Chinese international students need to study French for one to two years in France to basically pass, and the cost is considerable. Business schools and technical schools in France also require tuition fees, ranging from 10,000 to 100,000 francs. Additionally, there are no preparatory courses in formal university programs in France; so-called preparatory courses are specifically set up for Chinese or Asian students, and the tuition fees are not low.
For admission to tuition-free institutions (national comprehensive universities, national engineering colleges, public art schools):
Master’s degree - 1 year preparatory course + 2 years of major: total tuition and living expenses for 3 years amount to 180,000-200,000 RMB.
For admission to tuition-charging institutions (business schools, some national engineering colleges, private art schools):
18-month master’s program: total tuition and living expenses for 18 months amount to 200,000 RMB.
University of Quebec tuition is only 70,000 yuan per year, and living expenses are only 70,000 yuan per year. A 2-year master's degree generally only costs 150,000 yuan.
