"The Seventh International Conference on Multiphase Flow Testing Technology" was held

On September 17, 2011, the three-day "Seventh International Conference on Multiphase Flow Testing Technology" officially opened in Tianjin City. More than 120 professional representatives from Japan, the UK, Germany, France, Norway, Poland, Russia, Brazil, Israel, Singapore, and China gathered at Tianjin University to exchange the latest progress in multiphase flow testing technology and discuss the future development of multiphase flow testing technology. The conference was hosted and organized by Tianjin University, focusing on discussions about the "latest developments and technical advancements in multiphase flow testing technology under the conditions of modern industry and social development."

At the opening ceremony, Professor Yaochang Liu, assistant to the president of Tianjin University, delivered a welcome speech to representatives from various countries. Wang Shimin, professor at Southeast University and chairman of the Multiphase Flow Professional Committee of the Chinese Metrology and Testing Society; Tao Liu, director of the Engineering Thermophysics and Energy Utilization Science and Engineering Division of the Engineering Materials Science Department of the National Natural Science Foundation Committee; Yuichi Murai, professor at Hokkaido University and representative of the Japanese Multiphase Flow Society; and Huaxiang Wang, professor at Tianjin University and chairman of the Seventh International Conference on Multiphase Flow Testing Technology, respectively spoke at the opening ceremony of the conference.

The "International Conference on Multiphase Flow Testing Technology" is an international academic conference initiated by the Multiphase Flow Testing Technology Professional Committee of the Chinese Metrology and Testing Society and funded by the National Natural Science Foundation Committee. The purpose of this conference is "to provide an academic exchange platform for experts, scholars, and engineering technicians engaged in multiphase flow testing technology around the world, promoting the development of international multiphase flow technology research." The first conference was held in Nanjing in 1995, followed by the second to sixth conferences held in Beijing (1998), Fukuoka, Japan (2001), Hangzhou (2004), Macao (2006), and Okinawa, Japan (2008). With the hosting of these conferences, research in multiphase flow testing technology has gradually developed and deepened.

The main discussion topics of this conference include: the fundamentals of multiphase flow testing technology and new types of sensors and measurement methods; multiphase flow intelligent instruments, monitoring systems, and information processing technology; process tomographic imaging and flow visualization technology; optical, non-invasive, and other new measurement technologies; micro-flow multiphase flow measurement and characteristics; high-temperature, high-pressure multiphase flow measurement; industrial applications of multiphase flow; and other studies in multiphase flow measurement technology. The conference organized 5 invited reports and 14 group reports.

The detection technology and automatic device discipline of Tianjin University is a key national construction discipline. Targeting processes such as petrochemicals, environmental monitoring, power production, and gas transmission, Tianjin University focuses on the measurement problems of difficult fluids such as two-phase and multiphase flows. It was the first in China to conduct research on related flow measurement technology and process tomographic imaging technology applications in multiphase flow measurements. By adopting new multi-sensor fusion technology, soft measurement technology, and modern information processing technology, it realizes online detection and identification of the measured "difficult fluids." The in-depth development of this research work provides a brand-new measurement method for the online detection and recognition of process parameters, obtaining information such as phase holdup, phase velocity, phase distribution, and flow patterns of multiphase fluids. This offers effective approaches and means for online monitoring, recognition, and control of flow processes, narrowing the gap between domestic and foreign flow measurement technology levels. The convening of the "Seventh International Conference on Multiphase Flow Testing Technology" at Tianjin University will actively promote the university's implementation of an international development strategy and further research on multiphase flow.
